How do I switch my iPod from a MAC to a PC?
Posted on June 28th, 2009 No commentsI just recently bought a HP Pavilion dv3510nr, running Windows Vista 64-Bit Operating System. I have been using an iBook G4 (Tiger OS) to download music from iTunes and download from CD to my 60GB video iPod. I am planning to get rid of the iBook and would like to have my iPod sync with my new HP laptop. How do I make the switch and not lose any of the purchased or CD burned songs? I believe I’ll have to reformat the iPod but am concerned I’ll lose $$$ by losing my purchased music, primarily.
I know there is some software which allows the transfer of MAC formatted iPod files to a PC, but I believe it only works on 32 bit Vista machines. Please advise.
First make sure you have iTunes authorized to your itunes account (menu bar, Store , authorize computer).
You’ll have to restore your iPod to even get it readable by the PC. If you still have access to your iBook you can backup your itunes library and transfer it over to the PC. via these instructions : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1751
Most 32bit windows application will run under 64bit windows (the exception are software that require hardware interaction), most of the applications that would run are still in 64bit so it would be very impractical to expect windows to only run 64bit (OS X leopard is exactly the same, mostly 32bit applications, but can support 64bit).
The alternative is using something like CopyTrans : http://www.ipodtouchanswers.com/touch-life/win-copytrans-3/ , but you’d need your iPod to be visible to the computer first, so you may need to get something to allow viewing Mac drives… one solution is MacDrive http://www.mediafour.com/products/macdrive/ which is 64-bit capable (it would have to be in order to install a driver for mac partitions) then use CopyTrans on the new drive letter to get all your stuff off. I believe the free trial linked should be able to do it.
Once you got it all back onto the new itunes you can restore your ipod as a windows formated one.

Ipod touch apps problem
Posted on June 28th, 2009 No commentsI own an apple ipod touch 8gb and i recently downloaded free applications. I then pugged my ipod into my computer and the next timei tryed to use my apps they just opened and then immediatly shut down. What should i do?
Make sure you are at the latest firmware, 2.2, you can check in iTunes.
Next, hard reset the iPod.
Next, you can try downloading a new app, this sometimes corrects the memory corruption that a reset won’t.
If all else fails, delete the apps and redownload them from the AppStore. If they are free then you can download them as many times as you want to. This will fix the issue. Sometimes the apps get corrupted and need to be reset.
I have only had this issue twice and one time downloading a new app fixed it and the second time I had to redownload the apps that did not work.
Usually after rebooting your iPod after downloading a new application, that will let it run. Also make sure you have the latest firmware installed. If it still doesn’t work, then you may have to uninstall the app and reinstall it.

iTunes checkboxes
Posted on June 28th, 2009 No commentsI have my itunes set so that all checked songs will automatically load into my ipod. Obviously, those not checked don’t get loaded. The question is, why won’t itunes (on the PC) plays consecutive songs in an album that aren’t checked off? Only those that are checked will play continuously. Is there an option in one of the drop-down menus that I can choose so that the unchecked songs will play or is it not possible. I tried making a playlist but they still will not play consecutively unless checked. And, if I check them off in the playlist, they will automatically be checked in the main music library.
Any suggestions?
I tested this out on my Itunes and it did the same thing. Seems like it may be a big. Maybe Apple will fix it in an upcoming release….
