  • configuring Wi-Fi for Ipod Itouch with security

Posted on July 9th, 2009 servbit2 No comments

I would like to know in advance (before Xmas day arrives) how to configure my Netgear WI-Fi router AND/OR the Ipod Itouch my son is receiving for Xmas.
The router manual describes secure Wi-Fi connectivity with SSID, WEP and WEP-PSK etc.
I do not want to open my network to all or allow sniffing of IP information.
The Ipod Itouch manual only describes inputing a password to allow access to the WI-Fi network and to consult the Network administrator for more information, well that would be me then????
So what setting do I need to configure in the IPOD OR which level of security in the Router NETGEAR DG834GT

Thanks - just trying to reduce stress on Xmas day

OK .. I’ve an iPod Touch.

Do NOT use WEP as it is not very secure and easy to hack. WPA security is much stronger and harder to break.

On the Netgear Router .. choose WPA as your encryption format. Then set a good 8 or 9 character password ideally use numbers and letters.

Then once the Netgear Router is running .. switch on the iPod touch .. it should SEE the wireless network and attempt to connect .. it will identify that the encryption is WPA and prompt for the password. This password is the one you set on the router.

You should not have to do anything else on the iPod Touch. It is that simple.

gwcmaint’s suggestion about using the MAC address and disabling broadcasting is another solution but more complex to implement and not all routers allow you to block the broadcast of their SSID

  • IPOD won’t sync (load) new songs

Posted on July 9th, 2009 servbit2 No comments

I downloaded some songs from Itunes store. When I sync the Ipod nano, Itunes says ’syncing ipod, do not disconnect’. The message then changes to the Apple logo without confirming that the sync operation was completed. When I run diagnostics, it says ‘Ipod connection status - Failed.’
The diagnostics window says ‘Texas Instruments OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller. Device is working properly’. However, the diagnostics log shows these errors:
    DeviceIoControl() failed
    SCSI Inquiry FAILED
    CreateFile on interface path failed

I have done all the steps shown at
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716
    but no success.

I have been using the same laptop (with XP) to sync the same Ipod for over a year without any problems.
    Please help.
    Thanks.

Could be a bad cable or try restoring the ipod to factory settings (through iTunes)

  • IPOD not working. Not charging, not recognized by computer.

    Hi all,

My Ipod is not working. My screen does not light up but I can faintly see the apple on my ipod. When I hook it up to computer with USB, nothing happens.

    Please help?

    Thanks,

Sounds like the docking port is malfunctioning. Does it do anything when you hook up an AC charger? If the AC charger and the USB cable don’t work, then sounds like your dock port is bad. This would mean that your logic board is bad. If you want to get it fixed, then it will most likely run you about $119. You can also buy the part yourself and do it. If there isn’t any attachment to the iPod,you should invest in a new one. Let me know what you find out.
